Many somatic practitioners long to have more profitable businesses so that we can dedicate ourselves more fully to our work. Some struggle to build a business that is financially and emotionally sustainable. This workshop will cover three of the most essential business questions that I hear from beginners and advanced practitioners alike:

1) What should I charge?

2) How can I create an equitable pricing structure that acknowledges systemic marginalization of some people over others and makes my work accessible to the people who need it the most?

3) How can I communicate my passion for somatic work and my sense of purpose with courage and clarity - so that the people who need me can find me?

Join us for a workshop to identify clear, practical actions that will grow your business. It's essential to do this in a way that honors your joy, ethics, skills, and experience.

You will leave with a clearer sense of purpose, a formula for setting prices that are equitable but don’t undercut your profitability, and charts to make sure you are reaching your financial goals. You'll commit to a minimum of 3 key actions to take in your business to grow, relax, and expand.

You will clarify your “why,” the reason that you do what you do, and your “who,” the core audience that you serve. You will get real about what you need to thrive financially.

Hear from Clare Maxwell about the workshop in this short video clip.

LEARNING GOALS:

In this workshop, you will:

1) Clarify your “Why.” We begin the workshop with a moving meditation to help you connect deeply with your “why” – the reason you do what you do and the unique gifts you bring to your somatic work. This will be followed by writing and sharing to clarify your vision for your work, your mission to reach specific people and communities, and a clearer understanding of the social impact you wish to make with your business. When you are clear on your mission, time management, marketing, and many other aspects of business development fall more easily into place.

2) Achieve clarity around financial needs and goals. Please bring to the workshop the following financial information: - Your current monthly and yearly business overhead - Your current monthly and yearly financial needs (the income you need to thrive) We will use this information to utilize a formula (which will be provided) for setting fees and a process for managing finances and tracking progress towards your goals. Participants will use the formula for determining fee scales and tweaking their business models to create a layered set of core offers, as well as determining where it’s most appropriate to introduce equity-based pricing if so desired.

3) Create an updated business plan. You will use what you have learned in parts 1 and 2 to revamp your overall business plan. Each participant will update the most essential parts of their marketing, content, and financial practice to better reflect their true mission and financial needs.

Live participation is strongly encouraged. However, if you are unable to attend the workshop, the recording will be available to all who have registered for the event.

Clare Maxwell is a movement educator based in NYC. She completed her training in the Alexander Technique and The Art of Breathing after a long career in experimental dance. She spent many years exploring developmental movement, training in The Dart Procedures with Joan and Alex Murray, and Framework for Integration with Luc Vanier and Elizabeth Johnson. She teaches privately in Manhattan and online, and works primarily with therapists who want to deepen their relationship with their own bodies for self-care and to build relational skills from a more somatically resourced state of being.

Clare also runs business growth mastermind groups for holistic/somatic practitioners, and received a generous grant in 2019 to create a non-hierarchical learning community for Alexander Technique teachers called the Experimenters Union, which is still active today.
