These ISMETA Board Members share their personal histories of building a private practice and identify a range of criteria as a template. Crucial factors include: your scope of practice; aspects of your work that bring you the greatest  happiness; the financial remuneration necessary for your needs; effective communication with students, clients and colleagues, and crafting the marketing message for your intended population. Then participants are  invited to reflect on their own definitions of success and how to further their goals.

Bibiana is a Somatic Educator from Benicasim, Spain, trained both as a Physical Therapist (University of Valencia) and an Advanced Certified Rolfer© and Rolfing© Movement Practitioner. She directs Kinesis, a Physiotherapy and Movement in Harmony clinic, and oversees an innovative body-mind rehabilitation program for rheumatoid arthritis patients and stress management clients. She is co-creator of the innovative Aquatic Myofascial Integration, as well as Myofascial Release Trainings, both of which she teaches in Spain and internationally. Bibiana works with a wide variety of patients and different conditions, from athletes to children and the elderly. She also offers somatic coaching in business and educational settings. Bibiana created and directs Bodywisdom Spain  www.bodywisdomspain.com.  She has remained at the leading edge of BodyMind treatments and education in southern Europe.  

Ellen barlow

Ellen Barlow

MSME/T, ISMETA Board of Directors 

Ellen Barlow’s background is in dance (BA, Dance Education), fitness, yoga, contemplative practices and multiple somatic movement studies. She is a certified Practitioner and Teacher of Body-Mind Centering®, a Certified GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Trainer, and a Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME-ISMETA). Ellen is a founding member of the Body-Mind Centering® Association (BMCA) and a past president of ISMETA. Currently, she serves on the ISMETA Board of Directors as a member of the Executive Committee and the Communications Committee.

In this session, panelists share how they bring Somatic Movement Education and Therapy to different populations in various settings. These professionals discuss their experiences working with police and prisoners, in hospitals and community centers, with breast cancer patients, the elderly and working in schools, fitness and the arts.

Rich’s work as a Registered Somatic Movement Educator specializes in reducing stress, fear, anxiety and trauma. He brings his trauma-sensitive expertise to individuals and organizations around the globe including MenHealing, Cancer Wellness Center, Alternatives to Violence Project and many K-12 schools. His work blends somatic and mindfulness approaches and is specifically enriched by his close collaboration with Paul Linden and Being In Movement Mindbody Education, and Aikido. He currently serves on ISMETA’s Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, co-chairs the Arts and Education and Communication Committees, and is a host for the ISMETA Somatic Cafés. 

Emory Moore Jr

Emory M. Moore, Jr.

MSME/T

Emory M. Moore, Jr. is a multi-certified exercise and movement master teacher and pioneer. With more than 35 years of experience, he has immersed himself in the study of a myriad of disciplines, including martial arts, dance, chi gong, yoga, bodywork, Pilates, Gyrotonic, somatic training and strength conditioning systems. A resident of Brooklyn, NY, Emory’s passion for teaching and the education of young people led him to found the groundbreaking Embora Studio and create the wellness-arts organization EM Arts, which currently serves schools in New York City. This work exemplifies the belief that the way to a healthier society is through inner harmony and the arts.

Dana Davison

MSME/T, ISMETA Communications Consultant  

Dana is a Dynamic Embodiment Practitioner, Moving for Life Certified Instructor and Certified Teacher of BodyMind Dancing. She served on the ISMETA Board of Directors and worked as an adjunct professor teaching Somatic Ballet and Dynamic Movement for actors and athletes. Dana has presented at BMCA, LIMS and ISMETA/NDEO conferences in the US, Canada and Europe on breathing, immunity-fluidity, the stress response and the body in translation. She is a founding member of the Somatic Writing Collective and on faculty for DE. She currently teaches MFL workshops, offers private sessions, and is bringing her Somatic Movement work to horses.

Taking Your Work Online

In this video, the panelists share their experiences of bringing their practice with clients and groups online. They unpack common assumptions, as well as the challenges and benefits when taking somatic movement work virtual. The discussion covers the value of online approaches to facilitate deeper learning and appreciates the opportunities that the online format makes possible. The session includes time for participant inquiry and reflection on what the future for online Somatic Movement holds.

Beth Pettengill Riley

Beth Pettengill Riley, MSME/T, CYT, MA in Education, Stanford University, Beth is a global leader in Somatic Movement Education and Therapy and a seasoned Somatic Movement activist, with more than 40 years of experience facilitating workshops in Continuum, yoga and meditation. She passionately engages embodiment as a spiritual path. A founding member of Mount Madonna Center, she has also been a presenter at Esalen, The Open Center in NYC and the Skyros Institute in Greece. Beth served on the ISMETA Board for six years, three as Board President and has developed successful programs in universities, schools, hospitals and clinics. She currently serves as Education Director of Watermark Arts. During the past five years, Beth has been facilitating human transformation in virtual spaces and has successfully navigated new possibilities for sharing Somatic Movement online in approachable ways.

Gayatri Schriefer

MSME BEcEd, ISMETA Board of Directors 

Gayatri is the co-founder of Living Somatics and a certified Hanna Somatic Educator. She is an ISMETA Board member and serves on the Communications and International Weavers Committees. Gayatri has been a co-host and co-creator of the virtual Somatic Movement Summit. She now lives in Sweden, consults clients and teaches practitioner trainings in-person and online internationally.
