During its on-going Legacy and Evolution Project, ISMETA's creative team became inspired to explore the global roots of our somatic movement practices. This is the first full length video created from conversations they had with some of the most respected elders in our field. This video highlights the lives and roots of the somatic practices, explorations and approaches of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Eleanor Criswell-Hanna, and Paul Linden.

Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen
MSME/T, Developer of Body-Mind Centering®
Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen is a movement artist, researcher, educator, therapist and developer of the Body-Mind Centering® approach to movement and consciousness. Body-Mind Centering® is an exploration of how we embody our body systems, tissues and cells as well as our developmental movement patterns and embryological development. In 1973, Bonnie founded The School for Body-Mind Centering®. She is also one of the founders of ISMETA. Her work has influenced the fields of dance, bodywork, yoga, body psychotherapy, infant and child development and many other body-mind disciplines. Bonnie is the author of the books, Sensing, Feeling, and Action, Basic Neurocellular Patterns: Exploring Developmental Movement, and The Mechanics of Vocal Expression, as well as numerous videos on embodied anatomy, cellular consciousness, dance, embryology, and working with children with special needs. Eleanor Criswell-Hanna
MSME/T, PhD
Eleanor Criswell Hanna, EdD, C-IAYT, MSME/T was an emeritus psychology professor at Sonoma State University (1969-2009) and founding director of the Humanistic Psychology Institute (now Saybrook University). She was on Meridian University's faculty and Board of Directors, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. As Director of the Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training (1990-2024), she conducted trainings in Hanna Somatic Education, Somatic Yoga, Equine Hanna Somatics, and Canine Hanna Somatics. Former president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, the International Association for Yoga Therapists, and the Somatics Society (1990-2021), she was a licensed psychologist, IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist, BCIA certified biofeedback practitioner, and member of ISMETA.
Paul Linden
MSME, PhD, Developer of Being In Movement®
Paul Linden is a body awareness educator, a martial artist, and an author. He is the developer of Being In Movement® mindbody education, and founder of the Columbus Center for Movement Studies in Columbus, Ohio USA. He holds a BA in Philosophy and a PhD in Physical Education. He has been practicing and teaching Aikido since 1969 and holds a sixth-degree black belt in Aikido as well as a first-degree black belt in Karate. He is an instructor of the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education. He has extensive experience teaching people such as musicians, athletes, businesspeople, computer users, pregnant women, adult survivors of child abuse, and children with attention deficit disorder. His work has focused on trauma recovery and peacemaking. Paul has taught many workshops in places from Germany and England, to Russia and Ireland, to Israel and to Ecuador.
