During its on-going Legacy and Evolution Project, ISMETA’s creative team became inspired to explore the global roots of our somatic movement practices. This is the third full length video created from conversations they had with some of the most respected elders in our field. This video highlights the lives and roots of the somatic practices, explorations and approaches of Patricia Bardi, Alice Cummins, and Mariko Tanabe.

Patricia Bardi
MSMT, Creator of Voice Movement Integration
Patricia Bardi is a bodywork specialist, educator, licensed natural health practitioner and a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist (ISMETA). For more than 40 years, she teaches internationally and maintains a private practice working with children and adults in Amsterdam. Patricia is the director of the VMI Somatic Practice Certification Program, a professional training she founded more than 35 years ago. The program is professionally accredited by ISMETA. She has developed and taught Organ Rebalancing, an advanced bodywork training for professional healthcare practitioners and manual therapists at numerous holistic health institutes including Dr. Rudolf Merkel M.D.’s School for CranialSacral Osteopathy in Zurich. Organ Rebalancing is recognized as a post-graduate continuing education training for natural health practitioners and complementary health care practitioners. Mariko Tanabe
MSME/T, Director of Esprit en Mouvement
Mariko Tanabe is inspired by the healing powers of human movement and expression. She has been performing her works during the past 30 years in Japan, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Czech Republic, Poland, France, Italy, Malaysia, Canada and in several cities in the United States. She has taught at various festivals, universities and dance companies internationally. She has been Artist-in-Residence at Le Gesu/Centre de Creativite (Montreal) where she performs and collaborates in several events each year. She trained with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen – the founder of Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) and is a Certified Practitioner and Teacher of BMC®, a BMC® Yoga Teacher and Infant Developmental Movement Educator. She maintains a private practice working with individuals from all backgrounds and supports dancers and choreographers in their artistic, technical and personal development. Alice Cummins
MSME/T, Founder and Director of Somatic Wisdom
Alice is a dance artist, Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Master Somatic Movement Educator & Therapist (ISMETA). Based in Perth, she is a master teacher offering independent workshops throughout Australia. She has collaborated with musicians, writers, visual artists and filmmakers. Her solo work has been performed at PICA (Perth Institute of Performing Arts); Performance Space, Sydney; Dancehouse, Melbourne and RoseAnne Spradlin Studio, NYC. Alice has a 30-year history of creating improvisational performances and a commitment and love of this compositional form. Her work is influenced by Body-Mind Centering®, new dance practices and feminist philosophy. She has a Master of Arts from Victoria University and has been researching different modes and realizations of the body and performance over many years, often outside of institutions and the traditional places for the transference of performance knowledge.
