Join Somatic Movement / Expressive Arts Therapist and Creativity Coach, Adriana Marchione for a special opportunity to explore recovery from addictions. Using a somatic/arts approach, we will draw and dance to embody avenues for change in ourselves, our loved ones, and the people we work with. During this workshop, we will inquire into our own addictive tendencies as related to substances, food, and the many ways we use escape routes to bypass our feelings and emotions. The creative process helps us to express our feelings, make sense of our inner and outer worlds, and explore our identities. Through this lens, we will discuss how we can gain more access to our true selves using somatic practices and movement-based expressive arts (i.e.drawing, movement, and writing exercises). The creative process when combined with embodied practices, including the Tamalpa Life/Art Process, mindful movement, somatic and breath meditations, and nervous system regulation work can provide complementary care that is respectful of all recovery paths and orientations.
Participants will:
- learn how somatic work and art expression can provide dynamic healing opportunities that play a pivotal role in healing from addictive behaviors (substance use, eating disorders, behavioral addictions)
- inquire into the nature of the ‘true self’ that lies below the surface of everyday habits and compulsive behaviors by engaging in movement-based expressive arts therapy
- receive concrete tools to access vital states of joy and spaciousness that can also increase self-esteem and quality of life for people who are both seeking recovery and in sustained recovery.
